Checked for 12v at starter. Checked the fusable links from + on battery. Checked the power at the ignition switch at the start position, getting 12v on yellow/black (that's the lead to the starter relay). Checked the fusebox at the starter relay input, getting 12v from there, so there's a good connection to the ignition switch.

I have one big problem with BMW X5 V8 4.8i ecu, the car no start. Starter relay and fuel pump relay turn on-turn off-turn on-turn off-turn on-turn off intermittence synchronize between two relays.Battery is Ok. Ground connections from engine is OK. Strange it fails. Scan tool not recognize.

If it is blown the EWS will not send power to allow the starter to turn. If you are stuck you can try something. Disconnect the plug from the EWS and jump pin 1 to pin 2 on the plug not the EWS unit. This bypasses the EWS and sends 12v to the starter interupt relay. It still my not start but it should at least crank.

The EWS energizes the starter solenoid itself without an intervening relay. I've read that the EWS does have an internal relay, that could presumably fail, but can't confirm that from BMW tech doc
